The School Board of Broward County is preparing to unveil it's new Supplier Diversity Outreach Program on July 1st.
The program, which will be managed by the Office of Procurement & Warehousing Services, comes after a 2015 disparity study found that small, minority-owned, and woman-owned businesses (S/M/WBEs) face a number of barriers when it comes to taking part on Broward County Schools contracts.
The new policies make several changes, including expanding the original Minority/Women Business Enterprise Program to include local small businesses, implementing a Prime Contract Program to grow the amount of businesses participating in contracting in a prime rather than subcontracting capacity, requiring primes to achieve specific levels of participation from S/M/WBEs in subcontracting work, and instituting an incentive points methodology in the evaluation process for S/M/WBE participation.
"We are committed to addressing the issues outlined in the Disparity Study, strengthening our efforts to support local business in a fair and equitable manner, and monitoring the success of these efforts as we move forward with this important work," said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie.
