Prince Georges County passes Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business Act

MD News - Published Jun 16, 2026

The Prince George's County Council has recently voted to pass the Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business Act, which gives Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses (or SDVBs) a bid preference of 5 percent in County contracting procedures.

For the purposes of the act, businesses will be considered to be SDVBs under principles of reciprocity if they are certified by a "recognized federal/state" entity including but not limited to the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Maryland Veteran-Owned Small Business Enterprise Program. The bill also requires the County to maintain its own directory of such SDVBs. The bill also requires the County to issue an annual report detailing both total procurement spending and total spending with SDVBs, and requires the County to review the effectiveness of the SDVB preference after five years.

As the bill was adopted on May 26 of 2026, and becomes law 180 days after adoption, it will become effective on November 30, 2026.
