City of St. Petersburg MWBE Program accepting online applications

FL News - Published Jan 10, 2024

The Minority and Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) Program for the City of St. Petersburg in Florida is now accepting online applications. The City's Office of Supplier Diversity, which administers the MWBE program, instituted the policy as a method of seeking to expand the number of City-certified MWBEs.

Businesses are eligible to be certified by the City as an MWBE if they meet specified criteria relating to their ownership, location, and other qualities. The new program was adopted in 2023 by the City Council after the completion of a disparity study which recommended both race- and gender-neutral and race- and gender-conscious means of remedying extant disparities, and is designed to assist certified businesses by providing them with various services, educational training opportunities, and means of support in growing their businesses. The program is also empowered to create MWBE participation goals for City contracts.

"Ultimately, we all win with a wider pool of suppliers, increased business competition, and higher quality products and services for all St. Pete residents," said Mayor Ken Welch in a statement.
