Memphis-Shelby County Schools holding disparity study public meetings

TN News - Published Jan 24, 2023

Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS), as part of the process by which they are conducting a disparity study into the utilization of minority- and woman-owned business enterprises (MWBEs) in MSCS contracting, are holding public meetings at which interested members of the public can share feedback.

The study, if it should find a disparity between available MWBEs and MSCS utilization of such MWBEs, may form part of the legal basis on which remedies for such a disparity would be proposed. As part of the information gathering process in the study, two virtual public hearings will be held: one on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM CST; and a second one on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM CST. Members of the public may share their experiences in doing business, or attempting to do business, with MSCS, as well as general thoughts on how MSCS can improve diverse representation in public procurement. Comments will be recorded into the public record.
