VOSB verification to transfer from VA to SBA

News - Published Sep 30, 2022

Responsibility for verification of ownership of all veteran-owned small businesses (VOSBs) and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs) is set to be transferred from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to the Small Business Administration (SBA). The switchover will be effective on January 1st of 2023.

In order to faciliate the transition, the VA will stop taking applications for VOSB and SDVOSB verification or reverification on October 24th of 2022. The VA has committed to reaching out directly to VOSBs and SDVOSBs who may be affected by this deadline.

Verification of ownership is currently the only VA function relating to VOSBs and SDVOSBs that is being transferred to the SBA. The VA will continue to provide its other offerings, such as training, advocacy, and education, to VOSBs and SDVOSBs after the switchover.

"VA will reach out to all impacted Veterans to ensure a transparent, seamless transition of the verification process," said Sharon Ridley, Executive Director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization within the VA.
