City of Pittsburgh includes LGBTBEs in contracting

PA News - Published May 18, 2021

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto has signed into law a bill that allows LGBT-owned businesses (LGBTBEs) to register with the City of Pittsburgh's procurement platform alongside other minority- and woman-owned businesses (MWBEs).

Businesses will be considered eligible if they are certified as LGBTBEs by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) or by The Three Rivers Business Alliance (3RBA), an NGLCC affiliate. Such certification will allow for LGBTBEs to take part in various training, business development, networking, and assistance opportunities already offered by the city to MWBEs. The bill also provides for the total dollars spent with LGBTBEs by the city every fiscal year to be tracked and reported, allowing for greater visibility into LGBTBE utilization by the city.
