New Minnesota portal simplifies DBE, small business certification

MN News - Published May 07, 2018

Becoming certified as a disadvantaged or small business enterprise in Minnesota just became a lot easier.

At the beginning of May, the state launched a one-stop online certification portal through which companies seeking Disadvantaged Business Entity (DBE), Targeted Group Business (TGB), and St. Paul Central Certification (CERT) status can apply with a single application. Previously, applicants had to submit documents to each certification program individually.

"We are working hard to ensure that government better reflects the rich diversity of Minnesota, and is accessible to all Minnesotans. This portal is helping us achieve that goal by streamlining the certification process for small businesses owned by people of color, women, and veterans," said Governor Mark Dayton. "This is an important step toward ensuring that all Minnesotans have opportunities to prosper and succeed. I encourage all eligible Minnesota businesses to apply for certification."

With certification, businesses can take advantage of events and contract preference programs that are intended to make public contracting at the local, state, and federal level more diverse.
