Missouri bill to expand definition of minority business proposed

Legislation proposed in the Missouri state legislature would expand the state's definition of a minority business enterprise (MBE).

The proposed bill, HB 1332, sponsored by Randy Pietzman (R-District 41), would include any "partnership, joint venture, corporation, or other entity with employees of which at least one quarter are minorities" in the definition of MBE. Currently, only a business that is at least 51 percent owned by a person or persons belonging to a minority can quality for MBE certification.

To date, the bill has received a public hearing but it is no currently on the Missouri House's calendar.
