Charleston MWBE Program

The program summary on this page was last updated on 01/28/2021. If any of the information or links are out-of-date, please contact us.

The Charleston's Minority & Women Owned Business Enterprise office (MWBE) leads the city's effort to increase the number of city contracting opportunities made available to certified MWBE firms in the metropolitan area.

The city has its own certification program that is distinct from the MBE certification offered by the South Carolina Division of Small and Minority Business Contracting and Certification.

As a certified Charleston MWBE, a firm is added to the city's roster of MWBE used by city agencies and prime contractors bidding on public contracts and can access training opportunities hosted by the city.

Does this local/state program offer reciprocal certifications with other local/state programs? If a business is currently certified as a minority or woman-owned business under the South Carolina Office of Small and Minority Business Assistance Program, or certified as a disadvantaged business enterprise by the South Carolina Department of Transportation or the Carolinas Virginia Minority Suppliers Development Council, Inc. program, the business may be eligible to receive a reciprocal certification.
