Charlotte MWSBE Program

The program summary on this page was last updated on 01/28/2021. If any of the information or links are out-of-date, please contact us.

Through the Charlotte Business INClusion (CBI) program, Minority, Women, and Small Business Enterprises (MWSBEs) gain greater access to contracts with the City of Charlotte.

With certification, MWSBEs can bid on city contracts, become listed on the city's Vendor List used by city departments and prime contractors to identify MWSBEs, receive notices of upcoming contracting opportunities, and access networking events and technical assistance.

Eligible companies can become certified directly through the city as a SBE, but in order to be recognized as a MBE or WBE a firm must already be certified as a Historically Underutilized Business by the State of North Carolina.

Does this local/state program offer reciprocal certifications with other local/state programs? HUB certification in North Carolina is in fact a precondition of receiving certification as a MWBE.

Does this program require bidders attempt to make a good-faith effort to meet participation goals? A bidder must make a good-faith effort to reach the MSBE subcontracting participation goal on the project if a given project has such a goal.

How do I get re-certified? A re-certification application document has been provided by the CBI.
