Recognition as a minority and women business enterprise (MWBE) is possible with the State of Kentucky through it's MWBE Certification Program. The certification process takes about 60 to 90 days to process, and a certification is valid for a period of three years.

Does this local/state program offer reciprocal certifications with other local/state programs? A business from out of state may be certified with Kentucky's MWBE program if it is certified in its home state as a DBE, MBE, or WBE by a state-level entity, and if it has a received an on-site review or visit from the certifying home-state agency within the prior three years. Cross-certification is not automatic but a streamlined application may be submitted.

Does this certification expire? The certification expires after a period of three years. A document must be sent on a yearly basis stating that there have been no changes to the business disqualifying it from certification.
