The Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) Program for Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) defines a M/WBE as any business at least 51 percent owned and operated by any member of a number of enumerated minority groups or by a Caucasian woman or women. Per the terms of the Supplier Diversity Outreach Program as adopted by the Broward County School Board, being certified gives M/WBEs (as well as small business enterprises) the chance to be counted towards specific utilization goals that primes are required to meet, as well as being scored in an incentive points methodology when bidding.

Does this local/state program offer reciprocal certifications with other local/state programs? A Tri-County Reciprocity Application is available but only if the relevant business is currently certified with: Broward County; Miami-Dade County; Miami-Dade County Public Schools; Palm Beach County; or The School District of Palm Beach County.

Does this certification expire? Once certified, a vendor’s certification is valid for two years from the date of issue, unless its certification is suspended or revoked.

Does this program require bidders attempt to make a good-faith effort to meet participation goals? A good-faith effort is required to meet participation goals on certain contracts.
