The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is the only agency certifiying DBEs in the state of Montana. MDT projects that receive US Department of Transportation (USDOT) funds will generally have a DBE participation goal on them, which means that the participation of a DBE certified firm, or the good faith effort to secure the participation thereof will be counted towards that total.

Does this local/state program offer reciprocal certifications with other local/state programs? Procedures for interstate certification have been set forth that include submitting an interstate affidavit and maintaining DBE certification from one's home state.

Does this certification expire? A "no change" affidavit must be submitted annually along with certain other documents in order to retain one's certification.

Are there multiple agencies that offer this certification in the state? MDT is the sole certifying agency in the state.

Does this program require bidders attempt to make a good-faith effort to meet participation goals? Yes, bidders must make a good-faith effort to meet the DBE participation goal on projects with such a goal attached.
