The City of Orlando has it's own minority and women business (MBE/WBE) program separate from the State of Florida. As a city-certified MBE/WBE, a company is listed in the city's M/WBE Internet Database, which is used by companies seeking local MBE/WBE vendors, and is eligible to participate in city programs designed to help these businesses. All certification applications must be submitted through the city's Certification Unit Web site.
Does this local/state program offer reciprocal certifications with other local/state programs? Companies meeting the certification criteria and holding current MBE or WBE certifications from Orange County Government Business Development Division may request reciprocal certification when bidding on any of the three Community Venue Projects (those being Events Center, Performing Arts Center, and Citrus Bowl Renovations) and Soccer Stadium.
Does this certification expire? Renewal of certification or recognition status, once approved, shall be valid for a period of two years. Applications for such renewal must be submitted to the city at least 60 days prior to the expiry of certification or recognition.
Does this program require bidders attempt to make a good-faith effort to meet participation goals? A prime contractor must make a good-faith effort to fulfill the city's goals of 18% MBE participation and 6% WBE participation on city contracting.
