The significant Sonoma Complex Fires of October 2017 have led to numerous environmental changes including: loss of vegetation and ground cover, alteration of soil properties, and the reduction of hillside stability. The local Watershed Task Force is conducting efforts aimed at mitigating further damage to the watershed, protecting both partially damaged and undamaged improved properties and identifying areas where potential life safety and health threats are high. BMPs have been installed in some areas. However, many unincorporated private properties are still in need of BMP installation. In areas where BMP installation has not yet occurred, BMP installation is necessary to mitigate threats of damage to improved private property and to protect public health and the environment.

Watershed partners have been working to implement post-fire BMPs within areas that were burned in an effort to prevent pollutant laden storm water from entering storm drains and reaching surface waters.

Project scope includes but is not limited to: Contact private landowner – confirm they are the landowner / confirm address; Document contact information for landowner; Gain permission to enter the property; Assess property for threat; Recommend mitigation (how much material needed? Where to place it?) Monitor and evaluate BMP during winter months; Verify materials used and work done (name of person doing work, # of hours, # of lineal feet, stakes, gravel, sand, etc.)

100% performance and payment bonds may be required. Bonding, insurance and other assistance is available upon request. Delivery Schedules may be flexible depending on the County of Sonoma’s needs and requirements. Please contact us for any other assistance needs you may have.
