The Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) Certification Program of New York City has the goal of promoting fairness and equity in city procurement processes. Registration and renewal frees are free of charge and operate on a five-year renewal cycle. Once a business is certified as meeting the criteria of M/WBE, it is then eligible to receive a number of services, such as listing in a directory, networking events, free services, and additional opportunities to sell to the government.

Does this local/state program offer reciprocal certifications with other local/state programs? Firms already certified by one of: the New York City School Construction Authority, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the Women President's Educational Organization, the New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council Inc, or the Empire State Development Corporation, may be able to access fast track certification procedures.

Does this certification expire? The renewal cycle for the certification operates on a five-year period. A no-change affidavit must be submitted on a yearly basis during this time.
